What I’ve Been Up To Lately..

I feel like things are coming along!  I say that because I’ve been working on projects that are commissioned and/or paid!  I’m quite excited about this (to say the least).

First I finished a signature wedding quilt that was for a wedding last fall.  This is for a very good friend (practically a sister) named Sara.  She and Austin had a beautiful wedding.  I was so honored when she asked me to make a signature quilt for their special event.

See Boudin peeking his little face in?

I got to use all sorts of pretty blue and green batiks.  Each square was either hand embroidered or machine appliqued.  The appliqued birds were blown up from images on their wedding invitations.  During the wedding guests wrote a special message to the couple in the white space around the blocks.

… including my sister’s dog (my puppy-niece).

I can’t wait to deliver this to the happy couple!

Also, I machine-stitched down the binding on this one – my first time doing that on a large quilt.

My neighbor owns a business doing maintenance on different Richmond buildings.  He found out I love to sew and gave me a challenge…

Something’s definitely missing here… After being in the open weather a couple of numbers were falling off this canvas flag.   It took me at least half the day.. Had to open the whole thing (double-sided) but in the end I had this:

(What can I say – Boudin loves to be in pics)

I had some off-white canvas in my stash… Set my zigzag stitch really close and got to it!  I gave it to my neighbor this afternoon and he was quite pleased I was able to get this done.  And I’m quite pleased I get a small check from the deal!  Now when I walk down the 3200 block of Cary Street I can look up at some of my handiwork.

And then I’m working away on the girly baby quilt for my co-workers new niece.  It feels kind of busy…. So what do you think (pardon the yellowish photos):

Use your imagination… With sashing and cute pink spacing squares? Or…

Smooshed together with no sashing?  It seems kind of busy to me but it’s definitely a lot of fun prints that I think a baby would love to look at!  Keep in mind it’ll be a bit bigger.  I’ll add at least another row on the top…

Thanks for reading and seeing what I’ve been up to!  Have a great week!
